I liked the book because Maniac Magee, known as Jeffery Magee, survived on his own after he left his uncle Dan and aunt Dot. Maniac Magee never actaully learned to survive. I'm also wondering why Maniac Magee loves books so much. I know Maniac Magee loves books so much because when he saw that Amanda's suitcase was filled with books, he said, "Books!" Even though Amanda Beale was going to be late for school, she still gave Maniac a book. Maniac helped a kid out of a backyard, that a lot of kids fear, Finsterwalds. Anyway, I think Finsterwald is a old harmless man. Why do kids fear him so much? When Mrs. Pickwell whistled, not only were there Pickwells, Maniac Magee was there. Towards the end of part one Maniac untied a giant knot.
I liked this book because Maniac Magee treated people equally even though they had different skin color than him whereas everyone else paid attention to other people's skin color. Also Maniac Magee was helpful to others, he taught Grayson to read books, he helped Ms.Beale to attend to her kids. In addition, I was also a bit surprised that Maniac Magee was able to read books without going to school regularly.

Maniac can hit John McNab’s fastball and he bunted a frogball. I know that Amanda might know Maniac is homeless, because Maniac said, “Are you running away?” I’m happy that the Beale’s took Maniac in. Maniac does things without being told. I don’t like the man who thinks Maniac can’t live at 728 Sycamore. Mars Bar doesn’t think 728 Sycamore is really Maniac’s home, but the Beales took him in, so it is. I like that even though Amanda was yelling at him and told him not to come back, she cares about him so, Amanda went looking. I feel sad and surprised Grayson died because Maniac found a home, now it’s gone. Also, it happened five days after Christmas! I’m really happy Amanda told Maniac to come home.
